The page calculates the ratings as described by Ian Norman. This is based on only the lens mm and f numbers, and does not consider the lens quality. For comparing lens quality check out the great resource at DxO Labs

Enter the Lens details below which you want to check. E.g. for Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM, enter 24 as the mm, and 2.8 as the f number. If you want to check how it will perform at 70mm, then enter 70mm instead of 24mm.
